Police Updates
-Officer Tilton, our neighborhood resource officer. (tiltonb@northcharleston.org) met with to let us know about recent crime activity. He described crimes from assault, larceny of license plates and theft of bikes and lawnmowers. Crime has not gone up or down in our area which concerns Chief Zumalt.
-At previous meetings there were complaints of speeding on Holmes between Durant and S. Rhett. A speed check was done in this area over a course of days and it showed there were no abnormal spikes in speeding. The speeding mostly occurred in rush hours.
-If there is an immediate concern, contact police by calling dispatch at 740-1015, however, if there is a persistent concern, contact Officer Tilton at 819-0017 to let him know so that he may monitor the situation consistently.
-Officer West, our Crime Prevention Officer, spoke in detail about crime and how we can prevent it from happening to us. 90% of break-ins to vehicles occur when a car is unlocked or there are valuables in plain sight. The best thing you can do to protect your home is to take all boxes from expensive items (i.e. TV, stereo, gaming systems) to the dump or better yet a recycling drop off center and leave your porch lights on at night. It uses very little electricity and the protection is great. Officer West is a part of Project CLUE where they are giving out FREE LED light bulbs for your outside lights. -North Charleston is one of about 3 cities in the US that participates in RAIDS online. (raidsonline.com) This program allows you to put in an address into the website and get daily updates to crime related activity.

-Halos was founded in 1997 and was created to provide opportunities, critical goods and resources for children involved with the Charleston County Dept. of Social Services. There are approximately 2000 children who are being served by Charleston County DSS due to abuse and neglect. To donate goods or a monetary amount, please contact 953-3715 to set up an appointment.
-Tri-County Family Ministries was founded in 1983 and provides food, clothing, medical care, counseling, transportation, shelter and other vital services to the less fortunate in the greater Charleston area. These programs help bridge the gap to help people get stable again. They are located at 3349 Rivers Ave. where they have a kitchen and dining space and they offer 3 meals a week, a food pantry and a clothes closet. December’s Holiday Social
-Neighbors joined at the Meeting Place after decorating our local tree at the Circle to socialize over a yummy meal from Five Guys (thanks to our neighbor JC Harrell).
-Our Holiday good will initiative was to give to the “Giving Tree” supported by the HALOS project. With much support from our neighbors we were able to give a fantastic Christmas to 5 children.
-Please join us for our next initiative which is to donate hats, scarves and coats to those who are in need. Please bring one or all of these items to our next meeting on

Year 2011
In 2011, the Council Leadership hopes to do the following:
- Increase neighborhood membership by 75%
- Raise awareness about our neighborhood activities and recreational opportunities
- Give back to our community through local good will initiatives
- Improve the safety, appearance and livability of our neighborhood
- Make information accessible through our online blog: www.oldenorth.wordpress.com
