Please come to our next Neighborhood Meeting, Tomorrow April 10th at 6:30 pm, The Meeting Place
-Council proposed some changes to our bylaws at the last meeting regarding officers and their duties and the new Branches which encompass our Council. There was a unanimous vote accepting all new bylaws and verbiage changes.
-Hursey Elementary’s Montessori program is growing and the school is always looking for more volunteers. The Garden Project has also been very successful but they need more funding to keep it going. In an effort to help Hursey Elementary, they have asked that we collect Box Tops and bring to any of our neighborhood meetings.
-The Citizens Advisory Council plans on having a June workshop to help strengthen neighborhood councils and provide them with effective ways to grow
-Reps from Odfjell came to introduce themselves and give a brief overview of their company. They are a bulk terminal facility for ships transporting material cargo for their private customers, with about 1-2 ships per month. Construction will begin this month with an open date in the 3rd quarter of 2013.
–4th Annual Village Street Sale will be May 19th. Go to villagestreetsale.com to get information on renting a spot on E. Montague to sell your stuff.
-Crime Watch Branch: The Crime Prevention Officer is named Marie Leahey and they plan on having her at the next Branch Meeting.
-Beautification Branch: The Beautification Branch has suggested implementing a program called Adopt-Your-Block. Our goals for this project will be to have a block captain on all participating blocks to help facilitate a group effort to keep their block swept, edged and beautiful; and at the end of each quarter, a “Yard of the Quarter” will be acknowledged. We are currently seeking another grant to help fund the initial setup of this project. Our efforts will entail getting signage and helping fund any small improvements.
Clean Cities Sweep is fast approaching and will be April 28th from 9-1. We will be cleaning up the triangle shaped green space at Beaver/Lambert/Justice. We are seeking more volunteers, please contact Christopher, firstname.lastname@example.org or call 377-6043. Christopher has been working hard at getting both volunteers and donations from local businesses to help our efforts.
-Membership Branch: This branch has a contract with a local sign company to create an Olde North Charleston Neighborhood sign and most likely will be placed on Spruill Ave as you are entering into our neighborhood of PC.
-School Branch: Kyle Lahm has stepped down as School Branch Coordinator. Council is seeking additional volunteers to help foster the 3 goals that the group initially outlined. Regular communication with ONC residents about volunteer opportunities, scheduled school athletic calendar events to increase community support, and resourceful connection building are the main volunteer responsibilities.
