July Meeting Highlights


Guest Speaker:

Kate Gerloff from the Humanities Foundation handed out a survey regarding low income housing and explained what her organization does.  They would like to build low income housing in North Charleston.  The council received copies of the surveys, and Ms. Gerloff will be at the August meeting collecting any additional surveys anyone fills out.  Come to the August meeting to fill out a survey on low income housing.

Humanities Foundation is a nonprofit housing developer, providing affordable housing in communities in the Southern Region of the United States.


2012 N.E.W. Fund Grant Announcement was Saturday, July 14th

The Olde North Charleston Neighborhood Council was scheduled to receive the grant check for the Beautification Branch’s “Adopt-Your-Block” program


Council News

Interim Secretary was announced – Catherine Heston will support Kate Besta in the Secretary’s role for the ONC Neighborhood Council until new council leaders are appointed

Reviewed by-laws regarding selecting new council leadership.  Nominating committee will be solicited among council members.  Contact Kate Besta (katembesta@hotmail.com) if you are interested in being on the nominating committee.


Councilman Bob King’s report

North Charleston City Budget approved

–          Council has a copy of the budget, if anyone would like to read it

–          Summary statistics:

o   North Charleston 3rd largest city in S.C.

o   $95M operating budget


Sidewalk repair scheduled for Jenkins and Hatfield streets


Amazon, Inc will move into the old City Hall.  Other capital improvement all over the city.  Details available with the council.



Announced that pile driving testing will start late July

Driving will commence in the late summer and continue until the end of this year



Crime Watch Branch

National Night Out – Tuesday, August 7th

Gather at Justice/Beaver/Lambert – the triangle shaped park at 5:30pm ET

Cook-out afterward!!
